Content, for now
November 30, 2025
My mental health has improved considerably over the past month (as implied by the noticeable lack of posts). For now, blogging on here is less so a rant and cry and more so of a monthly recap. A few things worth celebrating:
- I wrote my first pilot script! Far from perfect, but I'm excited to meet with a writing coach this week to go over it.
- I paid off a good chunk of my student loans!
- My December craft event is sold out!
- I started watching baseball and my home team won hugely. Decided to own an interest in a sport.
- Therapy (yippee)
- Just started getting back into a regular pace watching movies after nearly a year avoiding it. I don't log anything on Letterboxd. I have my own handwritten media log that I like to use. I want my relationship to film to be an understanding and noticing of works of art rather than a dose of entertainment dopamine.
- Got to witness SNOW! Oh dear it's so thick here. It's snowing right now and because it's Thanksgiving Break, I'm rather exhausted from having literally nothing to do (especially since I finished my 60-page pilot a few days ago, a tentative conclusion to a 2-month enterprise).
I've come to the conclusion that the only way to get better at screenwriting is to put in the work and do it. I have an innate drive to write, so it's much easier than trying to force myself to do something I secretly hate.
And doing so entails putting my head down and ignoring all the signs of others' successes in the meantime. Of course I'd be no match for someone who graduated from USC's Writing for Screen and TelevisionTM BFA program and had four extra years of conservatory training, whereas I only really discovered an affinity for visual media and cinema in the past TWO years. It's not worth and it doesn't make sense to compare.
So my next goal is to write my first feature. We're getting there. If I can write a pilot of what might be my magnum opus down the road, I can write my first feature, too. Let's have it due by...next March.
